Save Garner's Public Library Our community depends on it…

About

Thank you for visiting and for your support for the Southeast Regional Library branch.

The sole purpose of this site is to inform the community about important updates to the issue at hand and to encourage active participation in the movement to save one of our most important local resources.

While the closure of our library is not a certainty at this time, we must work together to ensure this does not become a reality...

Please feel free to comment and let us know if we have missed something that should be shared with the community.

  1. Nooooo! please don’t remove my region’s library! I go there at least 2 times a week to work on projects, reading, etc. I would be devastated and isolated from completing many necessary tasks required for my classes at school. Please do not take away my safe-haven from bad report cards and a better education.

  2. I think that closing the South-east Regional library could be one of the dumbest ideas I have heard Wake County come up with. Many people use the garner library everyday. I personally have gone to the South-east Regional Library since I was in Kindergarten, now I am a senior, and still go to the library. Why would you want to take books away from a community when they are already being overtaken by the Internet? Maybe if Wake County would have spent less money on the Cameron Village Library there would be enough money to go around and meet the needs of all the Libraries… Also I feel that since the garner library is one of the oldest libraries you should be trying to keep it up instead of just throwing it to the side… History is a vital part of our community! SAVE OUR LIBRARY!!!!!

  3. I was very saddened to hear of the proposed closing of the Southeast Regional Library.

Since my family moved to the Garner/Willow Spring area 12 years ago, we have visited the SER on average once a week. I cannot begin to express how important this library is to us all, as we live in an area that is not convenient to other community facilities. We have visited the library, of course, to check out books and for educational resources, but also to join programs and keep up-to-date on local happenings in the area.

Additionally, when my family and I take the 15 minute drive to visit the library, we also engage in business in the surrounding Garner area that we might not otherwise do so, such as the Lowe’s Foods, Walgreens and CVS on Avesboro Road and Timber Drive, the Target, Home Depot and Kroger, restaurants and banking in the Garner Towne Square Shopping Center, and the Golden Corral and restaurants on Rt. 70, many businesses and restaurants at White Oak, and other local area establishments that are too numerous to mention.

Suffice to say, without our necessary trip to the library, we will undoubtedly no longer have a need to frequent many of the above stores in the Garner area, as we have all of the same (with the exception of the library) in a more convenient proximity to our home.

Though I understand budget cuts are inevitable, I fear there will be hidden ramifications to the town of Garner that are not being factoring into this unfortunate proposal. I strongly urge those in the decision making to reconsider the closing the Southeast Regional Library, not only for the educational enrichment that will be denied our community’s children and adults, but for the decrease in town revenue that will be a direct result of the removal of this important and cherished community resource.

    Respectfully,

    S. Cece

  4. Please don’t close the Garner library! Libraries are more important than ever in these tough economic times.
